I’ve done the “no-poo” shampoo thing before, and it seemed to work pretty well. However, I had some upcoming events and since going without shampoo (SLS based especially) makes your hair look greasy and limp for a few weeks before you balance out, I always fell off the wagon.
Lately I’ve really only been using Trader Joe’s SLS-free (still has Olefin Sulfonate but I won’t get into that right now) Tea Tree Tingle shampoo. Works pretty well, smells amazing…But I still get some buildup and I sometimes want to wash my hair every day.
So I decided to try this again after seeing a rosemary shampoo at the store. I got a plastic pump bottle in the dollar spot at Target, filled it 1/5 full of baking soda, then slowly filled it up with COLD water. Then I added some tea tree, rosemary, and lavender oils. I added too much tea tree by my own standards: I wanted it to smell more like rosemary!
Anyway I shook up the bottle, pumped out some of the baking soda water, and starting at my scalp I rubbed the watery mixture through my hair. It didn’t “feel” clean like your hair would while using an SLS shampoo. I was afraid my hair would be too oily. But after letting my hair air dry, it feels soft and WHOA on volume. I can already tell this is going to make my hair oily for a little while, but I’m prepared for it, so hopefully it’s okay this time. I also hope to add more/different oils to the mix so my hair smells better. So far there’s NO smell in my hair; I like a little fresh scent. :)
